His family will tell you he never came home
That man in the kitchen ain’t the son they know
Didn’t catch a bullet, didn’t lose a limb
Part of him is missing that we’ll never see again

So write it off as his fault, he knew what he signed up for
Just ain’t that simple at 18 with hopes for more
For your god and your country, for your wife and your kids
We’re safe and wealthy but at what expense?
